email address in Australia
Simple one this, I hope!
Expect to move to Perth at the end of April. Can emails to our existing email addresses in UK be diverted to new email address in Oz? Will "UK" email address work in Oz? What is the best way to deal with this issue please? |
Re: email address in Australia
Email addresses will work anywhere if you've got the account open. We use gmail for all of ours x

Re: email address in Australia
If you use one belonging to an account you may have - eg a Virgin one, but then close your Virgin account it will no longer be accessible (not forever anyway). We use gmail too - independent of ISP. Now us a good time to migrate all your stuff to a universal one then you'll never need to do it again!

What is the best way to deal with this issue please? We were with Sky and we are still using the provided @sky.com email. Always check with your service provider if you are unsure. If you have registered for an email account with a website, e.g. Hotmail.co.uk then it will still work anywhere in the world, including Australia. Hope this helps and good luck with your move! |
Re: email address in Australia
As others have said, it depends on who is providing your email address. If it's gmail or hotmail then it's fine you don't have to change anything. However if it's an account you'll be closing when you move then you will lose that email address.

Re: email address in Australia
Thanks everyone, looks like I'll be getting a hotmail one then.
Wife has a hotmail.co.uk address, will this be OK in Oz? Daughter who has been in Oz for 3 years has hotmail.com and, of course, that's OK. |
Re: email address in Australia
FYI: Possibly better not to use .co.uk on job applications.

In microsoft's quest to annoy everyone, they've been trying to push people towards an 'outlook.com' address - and I'm not even sure they give out hotmail addresses as such anymore? To the op, email addresses don't have to be the same domain, in the same country, etc. The best bet is usually to get one you can trust to be there for a while and not dump spam in your inbox too much. If you have, or will get, an android phone - I tend to suggest getting a gmail account/email address. You'd need it anyway, and its fairly stable with lots of space. In fact it can be an idea to get two email account, one that you keep for friends/family/important people, and one that you give out on signups, etc. and therefore is likely to get more spam. |
