Default Electrical goods in Oz Questions.

I was wondering if i can buy a region free dvd player in Oz and if so how much are they roughly.Ive been looking to bring my collection of dvd's with me and it got me thinking that it might be a waste of time.

While ive got you here, how much is a half decent laptop, and what would i expect to pay per month for a broadband connection?

Will foxtel sign anyone up for 6 month contract or must it be 12 months as im looking at 6 month rental home initially.

That should cover me for now! Lol!

We bought a DVD player last week for $79. It plays all the kids UK DVD's no problem.

Laptops, I haven't really looked at too closely but they start at about $900 upwards.

Broadband (if you can get it ) varies depending on who your supplier is. I think AAPT are ones with about the best offers. Again not looked, cos I can't get it.

Foxtel, again it depends if you can get it, (which I can't )

With regard to Broadband, we've just signed up for wireless broadband with Airweb on the Gold Coast. Free for first month, then just $39 pm, and theres no installation charge. they recoup all their fees from the Government, although this may differ depending on what area you are in.

Our Broadband supplier is Bigpond. It costs $40 per month and there was a connection fee, around $80 I think. If you check their website it details which areas are covered. It's Ok but not particularly fast last night I sent 4 photos in an email and it took about 40 mins.to do!!Also we had to wait four weeks to be connected, which was a pain.
We got a TV'DVD combo to start us off, just a cheap one from BigW.It was $279.

And it's going back to the shop at the weekend, because the picture has gone all green.
Also,we couldn't get Foxtel in our rental as the house is not wired up for cable,we would have had to get it all putin ourselves and are not allowed to make any changes like that,so check with your estate agent when you go to view properties.having said that, don,t really miss not having cable.OH wanted it for the sport-he just gets it off the internet(apart from the Ryder Cup,couldn't seem to get that)and for films, the Hire shops are really cheap. And our library does them for Free.

Dick smiths Own brand DVD player $59 works on all dvd's even ones that you copy for your own use in case you damage the original shop bought dvd's

Foxtel is a 2 year contract but you can buy yourself out for about $300.

As for the DVD player, I just region-hacked my Sony DVP-30 and sent it on the ship.

You might want to take a look at http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks

This will help you choose a player as some are hard to hack and some are easy. For example, I needed to buy an "All in One" remote to hack my Sony.
