No electrical current turns in the other direction down here so you need special coriolis adapters. Try the lifestyle forum :-)

Not having a go... Just be nice to find out for sure one way or the other... :) |

Has anyone actually got an authoritative reference for this...? Would have thought that to avoid paying out any insurance company would have to show beyond a reasonable doubt that any fire, etc was definitely caused by faulty wiring completed by the occupier, not just 'oh well, they changed their own plugs so it must be their fault...'...

Re: Electrical Appliances!!!!!!!!
may i be of some assistance on this subject, the Electrical supply in australia is 230V the same as the UK, all that is required is a change of plug one person said your insurance will be void if you do the job yourself, thats incorrect you are allowed to change the plugs on appliances, you are NOT allowed to however do electrical work from the switchboard to any lighting points/sockets/ cooking appliances. Its as simple as that but as i say changing plugs is allowed and easy again however though the Live & nuetral pins on the plug are in most cases not market so you must ensure you connect to the correct pins.

Re: Electrical Appliances!!!!!!!!
Somewhere on this forum there's a thread on changing plugs that goes on for about 40 pages and becomes a huge argument. Unbelievable

HI There that info is really useful, we were just wondering whether to take our things or not....so if we take our lamps, toaster, tvd, dvd, food processor all we need is to buy a aussie plug ? IS that a two pin one and change it ? How much do you get charded for that approx per appliance. Just thinking whether our friend who is an electrician could do that before we leave that is if we can buy some plugs on the internet. We have a plasma ....will this work with our Bose system Thanks
no they are three pin plugs in 10a and 15 amp flavours use the 10amp ones but personaly i`d just wait till you get here a quick trip down to bunnings ( local b&q type store ) and for $3 a pop you can get as many as you need regards steve |

Re: Electrical Appliances!!!!!!!!
I bought a 6 uk 4 ways and a couple of extension leads as it was gonna be a real pain to change around 70 plugs.

Re: Electrical Appliances!!!!!!!!
you will find all portable appliances in australia have pin 10amp plug tops some other appliances have a 15amp plug but in most cases its a standard 10Amp plug top you can get them from any wholesaler or Bunnings (B&Q), the problem may be for people not trained is the connections & i mean where do you connect the Active (live) normally Brown in colour most 10Amp plug tops have no markings on them so people get confused.
if you require further assistance ask me or send me a personal message and i can step you through it all very easily. regards arthur |
Re: Electrical Appliances!!!!!!!!
someone suggested you bring power boards DONT they wont be to australian standards, if you have a fire you will have NO insurance its as simple as that.
power boards are sod all in cost a few dollars, its just not worth the agony if things go belly up, and believe me the insurance people will be rubbing there hands if you use anything not to australian standards arthur electrician in melbourne |
Re: Electrical Appliances!!!!!!!!
Anything that is CE marked or BSI is fine in AUS.

Re: Electrical Appliances!!!!!!!!
We took over a couple of UK 4-ways and connected an Oz plug to them - they work fine, especially for things like phone chargers, where you can't take the plugs off.
Oh, Oz plugs have no fuse - so if you include a 4-way with a fuse you might actually be safer than what's on sale over here. (Note, I've no idea if you can get replacement fuses though..... anyone else help on that?) Dave x |

Re: Electrical Appliances!!!!!!!!
Would not exactly cost a fortune for someone in the UK to pop a couple in the post for you. I bought some with me, just in case, 3amp & 5amp for pc stuff and tv+dvd

Re: Electrical Appliances!!!!!!!!
I would be checking what you state here mate with the electrical inspectors office for be sure, for a few dollars it may not be worth the risk
