Default Education tax return - half price computers for kids!

Hello,

Went into our local Woolridges book shop (education supplier).
They had a poster up saying the new education tax return has now started. It said you could claim 50% back in your next tax return on anything you bought.

So I looked it up, its true. You can claim 50% back off most things if its for your school age kids and education.
Says if you buy a computer you can get 50% back in your tax return. This sounds great if your kids are wanting new computer etc.

You can claim back up to $375 per primary child per year
and $750 per secondary child per year.

Take a look here:
http://www.alp.org.au/media/0908/msedtres250.php

You have to be on family tax benefit A, so that means you have to be PR.
So I miss out this year. But thought Id mention it as some OZ friends didnt know.

Eligible families will be able to recoup the cost of key purchases for their children’s education, including:

laptops;
home computers and associated costs;
home internet connections;
printers;
education software;
trade tools for use at school;
school text books; and
stationery.

That will certainly come handy for us, just forked out $$$ for a new laptop yesterday with 3 kids in school one computer was not enough.... This also applies to the school book orders...

I looked into this but it's only available for lower income families as far as I could tell. Can't remember the exact criteria for it but I think you already had to be on some sort of benefits to qualify

These "lower income families" can earn $160,150 per year if they have 3 kids.

With only 1 child, the threshold comes down to as low as $100,801.

Over those figures, they lose the FBT 'A' benefits

LOL!!! Sorry ABC, I didn't mean to make you feel poor!!! And besides there's nothing wrong with poor!! I will be poor in a few weeks when I start paying my mortgage!!! We told the kids not to expect big pressies this Xmas.....this morning my 12 year old daughter was saying she really wanted some luminous yellow nail varnish - I told her EXCELLENT, that would be her Xmas pressie - she was genuinely delighted

Can I swap daughters ?, mine is 12 aswell, but for Christmas she wants a Wii, an iPhone, a trampoline with net and shade ($558), and when can she fly to Europe to visit her Granddad ! Plus she'll expect all the normal little presents !!

Then I see all those on benefits earning $100,000 a year more than us

Thank god for my bad memory, i'll have forgotten about it all by tomorrow
