Default Economic woes

This is a discussion piece if ever there was one

What does this say about wages ? How does the taxpayer over $50,000 feel about supporting so many?, How long can a country sustain an economy where so much welfare has to be paid out? How long can such a unhealthy tax pyramid last, Are tax rates likely to fall with these figures? Does this explain australias brain drain? Why would anyone on a decent income not want to up sticks and leave for somewhere with lower tax?

I have been thinking about this today - I suppose because the tax brackets are so much better than when I arrived three and a half yrs ago I feel I have less to complain about now. But I did used to really hate the tax rates for higher earners mostly because I thought it was ridculous they started in the middle income bracket!

Ok it hasn't moved on that much but at least it is moving in the right direction. I have never been entitled to any income support from the time we got here even though my husband was not working while he was supporting the kids transition - the benefits like the tax rate bands only came later on.

I personally believe the welfare state here is bottom loaded - break out of that cycle and then you have to pay for everything - which is a very big disincentive for some (not all I stress).

Cheers sandra
