East Coast Accomodation Recommendations (quite a long thread)
Hi all
We have just driven from Sydney to Cairns and here are the places we recommend you could stay starting from Sydney. All accomodation is suitable for children, the Big4 parks though are especially good because of the swimming pools etc.
Palm Beach B&B (http://www.palmbeachbandb.com.au/) - This place is really nice, the guy that runs it (Rudi) is a typical laid back aussie and you have the run of his lovely big modern house in Palm Beach (Home and Away), all rooms overlook either the ocean or the pittwater. There are also parrots, cockatiels, lorrakeets etc in the garden and the parrots will eat food from your hand. Can't recomend this place enough
Blue Mountains - Lurline House B&B (http://www.lurlinehouse.com.au/) - Another lovely B&B right in the heart of the Blue Mountains. This place is run by a couple of expats (Peter and Suzanne) who emigrated 15 years ago. The rooms have 4 poster beds and the breakfast is delicious, Peter cooks it for you fresh and it really sets you up for the day. You wont find a better B&B than this, another highly recomended
Gold Coast - Treasure Island Big 4 (http://www.treasureisland.com.au/) - lovely park close to beaches (Surfers etc) with pools, crazy golf, restaurant etc. Also very close to Pacific Pines (for show houses), Dreamworld (excellent), Movieworld, Seaworld (and all the other worlds you can think off). Park is very clean and friendly
Sunshine Coast - Maroochy Palms Holiday Village(http://www.maroochypalms.com.au/) - This park is one of the best we stayed at, it is very close to Buderim, Mooloolaba, Mountain Creek and the rest of the sunshine coast. As all the places we stayed it was very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. It is also very close to the Sunshine Plaza (shopping) which has shed loads of shops (better than we have near us in the UK). Woolworths, Coles etc are also close by for day to day shopping. For about $100 a night for an air conditioned villa this is a lovely place to stay
Mission Beach - Beachcomber Coconut Caravan Village (http://www.beachcombercoconut.com.au/) - This park and the next one in Cairns are really nice, if you go for a Villa they have 3 air con units, 2 tv's and are spotless. Cheap enough as well at around $100 per night. This park is right on the beach (with stinger net), we also did the Barrier reef and white water rafting from here (cheaper and closer to both than Cairns). Lovely pool, restaurant etc
Cairns - Cairns Coconut Caravan Resort (http://www.coconut.com.au/) - This park is probably the best place on the coast, it has won countless awards including a recent Queensland tourism award. It is owned by the same family as the Mission Beach park. Same villa's as above. This place has 2 lovely pools (new one opened a month ago), free crazy golf, tennis etc and has events on daily (such as open air movies, try out scuba diving, free pancake breakfast etc), all events are free. This was a lovely park to stay in for our last few days in OZ.
We also stayed at Big4 parks at Port Macquirie, Brisbane (Gateway) and Keppoon, we didn't like Port Macquirie (seemed dead after dark and Coles was like something from the 70's), Brisbane was fine (but very quiet) and Keppoon (lots of big flying insects and a carpet python under next doors cabin) was just an overnighter on our way up the coast.
Overall our accomodation in OZ was excellent (especially B&B's), everyone we met was friendly and seemed proud of their country. Also we noticed how clean and tidy everywhere was compared to UK (and we live in a nice part of the UK so I'm not slagging UK off).
Can't wait to get back in the new year, bleeding freezing here now!!
Any questions then please drop me a PM or ask on here
