early stages of making to big leap
Hi All,
Me and my wife are in the early stages of the emigration process, i qualify for a skilled migration visa, we like the idea of Perth, we have a young child (3 yrs) and we are looking for a chilled out lifestyle that is family orientated rather than the busy lifestyle sydney would bring. can anyone who has experience living in Perth tell me a little bit more than the various websites etc...
we are currently using the Emigration Group as our agency, just wanted to put the feelers out to other expats on whether they have used this agency or could recommend a good agency.
Thanks in advance
Nick and Fi

Go out and get the biggest slab of beer you can take......drink the lot.....When you awake in the middle of the night, sweating, panicking, chasing the pills, how do you feel. Thats what you will feel alike for weeks before your move.........To Oz, currently on a heart monitor, f00kin stressfull as f00000k..............
Think of it as an adventure holiday that goes on for a couple of years. No one chains you down here when you arrive, and lots of people come, enjoy a few years and go back. Some don't enjoy it, some do but have other reasons to return, some stay for ever, and others follow a dream (or career) somewhere else.
Life is an adventure. Make the most of it.

There is a very good reason DIAC says not to do anything permanent like sell property or quit jobs until a decision is made.

Did I read this right? You're selling your house and you haven't even started to apply for a visa yet? Do you have any idea how big a risk you are taking here? What are you going to do if you EOI is not accepted and you aren't invited to apply for a visa? Or if you are invited but for some reason are not granted a visa? And what are you planning to do while you wait for the EOI to be accepted/visa application processed/etc?

Thanks Dorothy,
i should of been a bit clearer we are selling our house regardless as i hate nottingham if for some reason we were not to get into australia then we will look at option B,C etc... either way we are selling up so it seems like more sense to sell and move in with the parents for a while and bang out the overtime at work to either add to our savings or use for another property in the uk however i have every confidence i will be accepted due to my job and other factors which i cant mention on here
but thank you anyway dorothy much appreciated for your input

Re: early stages of making to big leap
hi, i really have to echo what dorothy has said about selling your house before even starting, getting a visa is not a cut and dried process and anything can happen between now and a visa being granted, e.g getting cold feet, pregnency, illness, failed med checks, skilled assessment failure, ielts failure (if applicable). we are not selling our house just renting it out to start with to make sure perth is everything we want, even though we have been there before, living and working there is a different kettle of fish.

And let's not forget the new rules of skill select in which you might be fantastically qualified, but you may not get invited. Those of us that have dealt with DIAC all know that there won't necessarily be a lot of logic in the way they select applicants
