Hi Diane and steve,
We had a sony dav s550 in uk and took it to a home theatre centre and had it 'chipped' to play dvd's from all regions.
it cost £35.00 to have this done and since weve been here in oz all our dvd's play perfectly, theres no difference from the ones we bought in uk or new ones weve bought here or hired ones from blockbusters!
hope this helps!
Cheers!

hi Chris, it might be worth adding to your site about the dvd hacks. Most models only need a code through the remote which can be found on the net & doesn't affect the warranty or anything.

For what it's worth, our DVD player is supposed to be Region 2 only. We couldn't "hack" it, just chip it - so we decided not to & got ourselves a PS2 when we got here.
One day, my son put a region 4 DVD that we bought here into our UK DVD player, and it worked!!! (The region 2 ones don't work in the PS2....)
Ok - so we're in NZ, but that shouldn't make any difference (should it??)
Nicola.

Hi,
Our DVD player works fine, had to buy a regional disc, we just pop that in to set it up and then we can play ozzie DVD, the disc cost $15.
Very easy, very cheap.

We want to take our DVD player with us to Australia.
I know that different regions in the world play some DVD's and not others. I don't know what region the UK is and what region OZ is.
Can we take our DVD player with us and watch Australian DVD's?
I have read other posts on this subject but they seem to have conflicting advice.
Thanks for the help

I reckon the best thing is to email the customer service dept of the company who made your DVD. They should be able to say as well whether it will work.

What a fantastic site. You have just saved us £150 as we were going to ditch our 2 cheap and cheerful DVD players before we went. The TV repair guy told us it would be £40 each to chip them!
I can't believe you just press a few nos. and it changes it to region free. Both mine were on the site and they are the lowest budget ones you can get.
The only problem is I now need to get hold of another region DVD to test and see if it plays.
Have a beer on me you have made my day.
