DVD Players
Hello all,
Quick question for you - We have a UK dvd player that we brought with us to Brisbane, but it is on its last legs and not likely to make it to 2010. So, I'm after buying a new Aussie version but ideally I want a machine that will play both region 2 (UK) and region 4 (Oz) discs
Any recommendations?
Cheers

Re: DVD Players
My understanding is that the ACCC ruled that region locking was anticompetitive. You might find a new DVD player has had its box opened and a sticker re-applied - that's because it has been region-unlocked. However not all seem to be - we bought a LG recently which the store said *was* region free but it wasn't. However a few seconds on the internet produced the unlock procedure and it took 30 seconds to make it region free.

Hi, I've today bought an LG DV490h which Harvey Norman have assured me can be unlocked with a simple code (7 x 0 on the remote control) - Wol, was this similar to your code?

Re: DVD Players
My LG is a DV390H, not -490H.
Each model has a different unlock code and it's essential to use the correct one, otherwise apparently many models will stop working and can't be revived!
I entered mine with some trepidation - never done it before - but it worked immediately. My method was:
1 Power ON, "No Disc" comes up
2 Enter <Pause>, 3,1,4,1,5,9
3 "Code__" shows on the screen
4 Enter 0, <Pause>, Power OFF
But remember this may well not be your code.
Try Googling LG DV490H region hack and see what comes up. Try several sites - check they agree!
Let us know how it goes - good luck!
PS (Edited) I've just found the source of my code -
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks?dv...arch&&next=250
that was the site that gave the code that worked for me.

Wol - 7 x zeros, a pause button here and there and hey presto Shameless discs from the UK are rolling. Cheers. Job done & merry xmas.
