DVD in Australia
Anyone got any information on DVD in Australia? We are moving out in February but with the sales on here at the moment I am debating whether to buy a multiregion player here (from about £80) or wait until we get there. Any advice on prices etc would be appreciated.

Hi There,
We hope to be in oz by Feb too!! and taking a new DVD player part of 'Home Theatre' thingy. If youve got a multi region player then you shouldn't have any probs, but if not, and its uk only [region2] then you will have to get it 'Chipped'. not sure how legal/or not, this is but ive been told it can be done for about £100....
then you can play aussie DVD's [region 4] and all the others, 6 in all i believe. Check previous posts on this subject, i know there have been a few, which contained proper advice from people who seemed like 'experts'.
Hope this helps! Good luck! which part are you heading for?
Cheers

Get a multi region player, may not have the choice as much over there, but this is only a guess...
As a matter of interest, you may be able to buy VAT free in the UK (send goods direct to shipping company) on arrival pay the tax in OZ.
Alan Collett will no the answer to this,
cheers,

remote control hack - better as you can undo it, or set it to region 4 (Oz) if you have a RCE (regional coding enhancement - will not play on a region 0 [world] player) disk
or
chipped player - more expensive, riskier as you probably can't undo it, and so might not be able to play RCE disks. PLus it will invalidate the waranty (not that it is likely to be valid overseas anyway!)

Hi,
There appears to be no problem getting multiregion players in Aus. Buyquick www.buyquick.com.au has the pioneer 355, a nice low price unit at $429 with 10 free disks. Seems to retail here at about £130 region 2 or just over £200 chipped to all regions.
If you want to buy over here have a look at www.techtronics.com I've used them in the past and found them to be helpful and efficient. All their chipped machines are guarenteed and their Pioneer kit in particular can be chipped without invalidating the manufacturers guarentee (whether that's a wordwide guarentee or not though I dont know).
Cheers

Envy is creeping in now. I have spent 2 days sitting indoors bored because it has been raining solid, I have a long wait ahead of me, roll on the Spring!
Enjoy yourself out there.

no problem buying a multi here in aus ... I'm on my third one. My first was an ommni $160 Au (cheap sh*T) ... sold it after a couple months just to get a smaller one to fit on my unit(upgraded)... can't remember the brand of my second , but that cost 300 and something (AU)... I'm on my third another Ommni, which cost $400 and something, just upgrading again for svd's etc ... anyway, there's absolutely no problem getting Multi region DVD players here.. I'm in Brisbane, and if you're in this area ... try Brisbane car sound... I know they sell them, that's where I bought mine... multi's from 130 something. Most shops in Australia sell Multi region Dvd players... just ask in the shop, I'm quoting the ommni brand because I know they are one brand here which are multi.
