I bought some DVD's in Thailand (originals, honest gov ) and we watched them on an Australian DVD player and on a UK one, both worked fine. Does that mean then that you wouldn't need to get it chipped??

Got me curious now

I would think it would mean because those 'originals' had been stripped of their region encoding during the ... factory duplication process

This is another good site with regards to seeing if your player can be made region free

http://www.regionfreedvd.net/players.html

Select your make at the bottom and see if your model is listed.
