I won't say noone has been charged for new goods, but I've been on this forum a long time, and I haven't seen any posts from people that have had to pay for new stuff.

Hi Michelle,

I had a new appliance that I had bought just before leaving the UK. I decided to declare it as a leaving gift, just because it was still in the original box unopened, and I got charged duty on it - not much, but still - if you declare it - gift or not - they will probably charge you for it.

Just went through customs about 3 hours ago and I think you are allowed $900 per person.

Bought oldest money pit a psp at Gatwick, cost with games etc 245 pounds, customs weren't bothered.
Better go as only supposed to be sending e-mails we have got here OK.

Hello

The $900 is for accompanied goods only, unaccompanied have no such allowance.

From memory, I think I declared the value at about $80.00 and the duty was only about $ 17.00 - I know it's not much but still, like Tiawamutu said, it's a bit of a cheek, considering that taxes have already been paid on the item when it was purchased - oh well, not much you can do I suppose, other to not declare it ........
