Dutch Police check for UK resident
Having lived in Holland for a good few years I need to get a police check from there. Does anyone have any experience as to how long this takes?
thanks

Re: Dutch Police check for UK resident
Dear Dave,
We are Dutch, living in Britain. We have to get a police check (Verklaring omtrent
het gedrag (VOG)) as well.
It probably depends on which council, but a Dutch friend (from Delft) said that she
had to get one twice: she got the first one the same day and she received the another
one in a week. Since you apply from abroad, it might take a bit longer; say a month
to be on the save side.
We are going to apply for one this weekend. I understood from other postings on this
newsgroup that since you no longer live in the Netherlands, they probably don't care
if the document would expire. So why not do it now?
We have to get ours from Rotterdam, (see link (in Dutch) http://www.rotterdam.nl//co-
ntent/overzicht_producten.asp?cid=9783&intMenuItemId=446 5&intHoofdMenuItemId=3167)
since that is the last city we lived in. We had an email exchange with R'dam council
about applying from abroad. Just to share what we know:
- Send a letter with the reason why
- Ask for the international version, which is in English (and in Dutch, French &
Spanish). This saves translation.
- Include a copy of identification (passport page)
- VOG costs EUR 11,20 per person, p&p costs EUR 0,75
+ Either include a (Dutch) cheque
+ or transfer the money to their bankaccount (mail them to get the details)
- The document will be send to your home address, so be sure to mention it.
If you transfer the money directly to their bankaccount, they will wait until the
money and the letter have arrived before they process your application.
As I wrote before, you have to apply to the last city you lived in.
Hope this helps, Birgit
