Re: Duration of shipping
Often its not the shipping that takes the time. Delivery and customs clearance can add anything from a few days to a couple of months, and that can't be predicted accurately in advance

Also different ships use different routes so the time changes. Two and half years ago, our stuff left UK on the 23rd October, arrived at Brissie on the 26th November and could have been delivered by the 15th December but we had it put in storage for a week. The rough estimate you've been given sounds right but don't accept it as gospel, delays happen.

Re: Duration of shipping
Hi,
We moved out to Sydney in July last year from Southampton. We were quoted 6-10 weeks for shipping and then customs/quarantine on top of that.
Luckily for us it took 6 weeks shipping and only 6 days customs and quarantine but think we got them on a good day! We bought out a 40ft container and only had 2 items destroyed but have heard about many horror stories on it taking customs and quarantine weeks to get to containers.
Unfortunately, you first have the sea to contend with and then the quarantine guys!!!!

We had a Christmas Berry Wreath destroyed (totally overlooked on our part - got rid of all the Christmas tree stuff like pine cones but forgot about the wreath).
Also had a very old pick axe destroyed as we had been unable to clean the handle very well and their was soil/dirt which we could not remove.
But as previous post recommends - look at the quarantine website and they will give you more info. and advice.
Honestly, we were quite surpised at how much we did manage to get in as we certainly did not "clinically" clean everything!

Re: Duration of shipping
We used a local company on the South coast called White & Co who then used Nuss when we arrived in Aus.
Nothing broken and very good communication. I even managed to negotiate price with them once I got alternative quotes. Think I got three quotes and they were the middle one but as I liked them the most I knocked them down to the lowest price we had been quoted.

Here's the route it did take eventually.
Roterdam (30 days)
America
Pananma Canal
South America
South Pacific Island (Papeetee)
New Zealand
Sydney
Melbourne
and finally Freemantle!!!!!!
It arrived in April approx 16 weeks.
If you read to small print, you have no claim for compensation due to ships braking down, it's just the way of the 'shipping' world.
You can track the container on it's journey (we did) it was seeing the places around the world it was visiting, just a pity we wern't with it!
To track it you will need your BL container number (Bill of Landing). Then log onto the Maersk web site and track the container

Here is a list of all the shipping lines web sites.

Re: Duration of shipping
If you share a container you need to wait for it to be filled which can add a few weeks.
