duel nationality
does anyone know if you can have duel nationality in australia.
can you hold both uk and oz passports at the same time.

Yep, its not a problem to have dual citizenship. Thats my intention after 2 years in Oz.

was born in aus , now in uk, hold a uk passport and currently applying for aus one too.
Have been told NO problem. British by descent, aussie by birth.Dual nationality.

If both citizenships were obtained by birth or descent then you were always a dual national but did not have the passports.
Until recently if Australians obtained another citizenship then their Australian citizenship was revoked. This no longer applies but those citizenships that were revoked remain revoked.
BTW Those Brits obtaining Aussie citizenship become dual nationals and do not lose British citizenship.

there was a thread a couple of months back about british & Oz nationanity. You are spot on about the British being able to keep both nationality's.
The bit about become dual nationals and not giving up British citizenship was interesting.
The discussion went that since the British are subjects and not citizens it's not possible for you as a subject to renounce Britoish nationality. There is a legal bit you can do if you wonna revoce it so you are just Australian.
It all came about because a councillor was an immigrant to Oz from the UK and someone objected to her and used it to get her bared from the position. (Uk being a forign power she couldn't hold office.)
Sorry I digressed, still too early here.
