Due to graduate July in Biomedical Science and migrate to Australia

Hello Everyone,

I am from England and about to graduate this July with a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science. Due to the limitations of getting on the career ladder as a Biomedical Scientist in this country, and because the only good thing going here is football, I have decided I would like to move to Australia.

I hope to go on a working holiday this July (several days after graduation) intent on getting a job within a lab, even if it is temporary. I was advised to do this by a woman from the Australian Embassy present at the Australian Expo in Leeds this year.

She then went on to mention getting a temporary business visa following on from the working holiday visa.

I have no idea where to start. I have been on holiday to Perth but I aim to go to Sydney for the job prospects. I have visions though of getting off the plane and thinking "where the hell now?"

Does anyone have any recommendations on getting a job within a medical laboratory in the Sydney area, where to stay when I arrive there and if it is possible to have an employer sponser me before my working holiday year is up?

Apologies for all the waffle! Thank you very much to anyone who can help.

Carl

Hi Carl,

Can't help you will all your questions but have a look here - this is an employment agency which specialises in science / technical roles.

http://www.baysidegrp.com.au/techstaff/home

They can place people holding WHVs in temp positions.

Cheers, B

My other half is a Biomedical Scientist (MSc) at Monash Medical Centre Clayton (Melbourne). She managed to get her job pretty much straight away after arriving. There are a lot of private labs here in Melbourne (Gribbles, Dorevitch etc) and Sydney is probably the same. It will be worth going on the google.com.au and searching Pathology. I'm not sure about job availability but people move around a lot so jobs do come up.
