Ducted Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning

Hi guys

OK, our reverse cycle unit got fried a few weeks back by a lightning strike on a lampost in our street (along with several other items!!!!). So we've decided it might be wiser to just bite the bullet and get ducted installed instead of paying the $1000 we've been quoted for renewing the circuit board in the outside unit. Just wanted to know your thoughts on the best brand/make of ducted units and anyone's experiences good or bad of companies that have done the installations and any particular recommendations.

Thanks

Nikki

Japanese brands are the best, Daikin has the best name but there is also Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu and others to choose from.

Daikin are the best... There was a lady in Adelaide that had a system put in a while back, a few months... See if you can find the thread for which installer she used...

You should be able to claim lightening damage on your household insurance.
I have replaced several boards damaged by lightening and they have all been covered by insurance.

Cant help on installation recomendations but can recomend Daikin. We had a Daikin reverse cycle heat pump installed in our last house. It was just fantastic.

Just make sure you get a big enough one.

Our last rental (new) had a Daikin reverse cycle heat pump/AC unit and, because it was way too small, would spend more that half its time on the defrost cycle in cold weather. When it was frosty outside we froze inside because the thing was spending all its time heating the exchangers!
