Hi All been a while since we last posted we are in Brissy been here for 8 month now and all going well we are permenent residents I just read in the paper that a family from Sri Lanka got there citizenship after being here for 2 years I thuoght that it had been changed to 4 yrs can anyone let me know ? Thank s in Advance

If you got here (or validated your visa) before the 30th June 2007 then you are under the 2 year rule, (providing you apply before the 30th June 2010). If you validated or moved here after that it's 4 years.

Our Visa was granted on the 26th of april 2007 does that mean we have to do the citizenship test ???

Not everyone ... for example, those under 18 or 60+ are exempt.

my friends did`nt have to do it . but can`t remember when they were granted there visa .Ithough there was a new law out that if u were granted ur visa before a certain date u don`t have to do the citizenship test ?

You're right. I meant as generally, those of us posting here will have to write the test.

Your friends may have applied for citizenship prior to the test/new rules coming into effect. The part about visas being granted prior to a certain date has to do with length of time in Australia to apply, not whether or not you need to do the test. See here: www.citizenship.gov.au
