Driving test question????
Might be a silly question but...do you need to take a new driving test, and if so do you have to have it to get car insurance?

If you get an international drivers licence you can drive for up to a year (maybe longer ) before having to get an Oz licence .

An international Licence is only valid outside the country of your residence.
If you are an Australian Resident, and do not hold an Australian Licence after 3 months, the police can and will prosecute for driving whilst not holding a valid licence.
If you hold a temporary visa, then you can drive on a UK licence, you do not even need an International Licence.

This is a quote from one of the State Government websites:
This quote states what it really is:
They are only really required when your own licence is not in the language of the country that you are visiting, so in reality the International Licence is not required by visitors to Australia, if you hold a UK licence.
Confusion about these International Licences is created by some website quoting things like this:
When in actual fact the State Government says:
This is a quote from one of the State Government websites:
If your licence is not written in English you must bring an English Translation of your Driver's Licence or your International Driving Permit
To many people, the international driving permit has a mysterious, international air to it, but in essence, it is simply a copy of your domestic licence, translated in a standard form into several languages.

If you are an overseas tourist, you may drive in South Australia for up to twelve months as long as you carry your International Driving Permit when driving.
Licence requirements for visiting motorists
A person who is the holder of a current foreign driver's licence of a particular class may drive a vehicle of that class in South Australia on the foreign driver's licence if:
they also hold a current International Driving Permit; or the foreign licence is written in English or is accompanied by an English translation of the details on the foreign licence;
