Driving test in Australia
 
I am a bit worried here. I have noticed that people keep posting things about taking a drivers licence in Oz.
It took me 6 times to pass here in Britain and will be gutted to have to do the whole thing again.
Tell me it is not true, and that I can happily just plod along in a ute!

Depends on where you are headed. If WA, NSW or Vic you can just get a straight swap. If QLD and I think SA you only need to do the short theory test. No idea about NT or Tassie.

If you're heading for QLD or SA, I'm sure someone posted once that you could fly into WA (or one of the others that just swaps it) swap your licence (for a fee, of course) and that's that.

Not sure if you can but cant honestly see why not...

But I think you need to "prove" a permanent address before you can swap your licence. And I was going to say something profound but forgot what it was. :rolleyes: Anyway am sure the QLD transport would stop you somehow

It's not a straight swap in NSW. You have to take the "written" test again. This is basically sitting in front of a touch screen computer and doing a multi-choice test. It's real easy. It has questions like 'What do you do when a traffic light is green ?". You dont have to redo the driving test itself.

The written theory test is no longer required, in NSW, as moneypen20 said. It was changed in January this year. http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/...l_drivers.html

So it has become a straight swap, if you have a full UK licence.
However, If you have held your driver licence for less than 12 months, you will be issued a NSW provisional P1 licence. If you have held your driver licence for more than 12 months but less than three years, a provisional P2 licence will be issued.
