If you hold a UK driving liscence do u just need to sit the theory test to get an aussie license?

I think most states have now recognised the national recognition scheme for UK and similar licences - not sure about Tas or the NT if you're headed there. Queensland has done so, as have NSW, Vic and WA.
The 3 month rule is usually based on when you actually take up residence in the state, not necessarily when you validate your PR visa. But it's best to make contact with the licencing people as soon as possible to make sure you don't accidentally end up on the wrong side of this rule.
