Driving in Perth

Hi not sure if this question has been asked before but will ask again!!
My oh doesnt have a driving licence and was going to get it before we moved out but have read somewhere that he would have had to have had it for over a year here to be eligible to get his licence in Oz????;)
Does anyone out there know if this is true and would we just be wasting our money if he got his licence here as we hoping to be out in Perth in the next couple of months
Thanks:p

I seem to remember you can transfer your licence as a newly passed english person but you have to display P plates for a while. I can't find anything that says that it is just something I remember reading somewhere.

Details for transferring a UK licence to a WA licence are here:
http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/y...3.asp#overseas

It does not mention the P-plate business if you've held your UK licence for less than 12 months so maybe they've stopped that.

The thing to do would be not to ask "daft" questions. If you ask them if you need to display a P-plate they may decide you have to. Just rock up with all the required documentation and see what happens.

I'd recommend your OH gets his licence in the UK, it's just one less thing to worry about when you get here. You'll have plenty to do and stress about without worrying about having lessons and taking a test.
Like Gina says, when you do go in to transfer your licence, don't say anything, just see if they mention it to you first.

The good thing about P plates though is that it gives you a bit more space on the road and folk more liable to forgive you for mistakes. :p

I fully intend to drive with these plates for as long as possible.
