Default Driving Permit / Licence

Hi, we are visiting Perth in Feb and am hoping somebody can tell me if we can hire a vehicle with our UK driving licences or do we have to apply for an international permit (or someting similar) If we do where would I apply for this please.

With Thanks

Mel

Clarification of an International Driving permit requirement:

If your overseas licence is NOT in English, it is advisable to carry an International Driving Permit or an approved English translation of your licence with you when you drive.
This, or similar wording, is found on most State Government motoring web sites.
