Driving Me To Drink!

Right then, it's 6.25am, I've got the flu, it's bloody cold and raining outside and to top it all I just got outbid on a car on eBay .... bummer! Which brings me on to my Post ... Cars!

To all you car lovers out there (who are coming here) this place is a combination of heaven and hell. Heres some interesting but probably totally useless info for all you petrol heads :)

If you're not into cars then I apologise for wasting Thread space! But I can't sleep, I can't watch TV (cause this is Oz and TV sucks + I'll wake the kiddy), I can't sit outside and I'll go mad if I play one more game of Minesweeper!!!!!!

Anyway, did you know you can buy a 400BHP equivalent of a Vauxhall Omega out here, aptly named the HSV Clubsport or maybe you fancy Ford's version, the FPV Typhoon F6 - crikey these things are family saloon cars with bloody great V8's stuck in them, they look and sound awesome. Go into a Holden dealer to buy an equivalent Omega (the Commodore) and the smallest engine size you can have is a 3.8 litre V6. You may decide on a Ute for work, what about a 5.0 V8 Manual. This place is serious car heaven.

Buying a used car is just as fun. Get yourself an old Mark 5 Cortina, there are plenty about and most have the 4.1 litre 6 cylinder lump in them! It's a bit like stepping back in time, many cars that are long gone in the UK are still thriving over here - take your pick of Fiat 131, Lancia Beta, Rover SD1 and the like. I'm like a kid in a sweetshop and the divorce will no doubt be pending!

There is one serious downside though - used car prices are very high. I put it down to the typical 'shelf-life'. The UK it seems is 12 years, over here it's nearer double that. To prove my point a tidy 1989 BMW 525 will cost you about 4000 Pounds over here, in the UK you'd pick up the same vehicle for a 2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps!

I could go on but the temperature is rising (mine, not the weather!!!) so I'm off to see if I have the Aussie equivalent of Lemsip, I think it's called Bundaberg Rum :)

Have a good one people.

Currently about AUS$1 a litre !!!!! So the answer is Yes, you can afford to run a V8!!! That line worked for me.

Thanks for the vote of confidence on my UK grammar school education. What have female alsations got to do with anything even remotely concerning a post about Australian cars!

Get off the main roads ... you can drive for miles without seeing another car! Not that I'm condoning speeding obviously. ;) By a Road Angel.

Had to go to Bris Airport yesterday and saw a guy get pulled for speeding - it was 5am on a Sunday morning - unlucky bugger or what????
