Default Driving License

Hi
I want to apply for a job in Australia before I move. They require an Australian driving license. Am I able to apply for one from the UK?
Thanks

No.
But you should be able to get one pretty quickly when you get here.
What State are you going to ? You may be able to just swap your licence from UK to an Australian one depending on where you are going.
Otherwise you need to take a theory test.

NSW: you swap your car licence for a NSW one, no hassles, no test etc. Nice and easy.

QLD: You need to pass a 30 question multi-choice theory test, it's not too difficult, and you can take it once per day until you pass.
I passed on my 2nd attempt, and i've forgotten all the rules I had to learn when I took my test back in 19xx. Was it really that long ago !! :scared:

With HGV licence I think you need to take a test, but never looked it up. Will you be driving fire engines ?

So what happens if you move from NSW to QLD? Do you have to sit a test adn change your license from state to state?

No.

Interstate transfers just involve swapping your licence for the replacement State one, no test, no payment, and the expiry date is the same as the original one.

The QLD test is exceptionally easy. Just get the highway book (cannot remeber what it's called) from any newsagent or book shop, read through it and take the test. I passed 1st time, only takes about 10 minutes or so and your license will be issued on the spot. Most of the questions are answerable with common sense alone.

Females must take note of that point, the licence will be issued on the spot = your photo will be be taken immediately, no time to apply make up, do hair etc

You get to see what you looked like on that day for the next 5 years

Males take note:- Don't shave or comb your hair on the day you take the test. You get to look like a terrorist on your license for the next 5 years

Cheers,
