Driving licence

It looks like a fairly painless process to get an Aus driving licence (specifically for Victoria at least), judging from what I read on VicRoads.

I still have a paper UK licence. Will that be acceptable as proof of a current licence, or would I need to produce a photo ID type?

Quite agree, and yes I am still in UK.

Costs 20 quid to get one I think, and I would rather spend that on something else.

But, if I have to get one, I'll have to get one. Unless anyone can tell me otherwise of course. :)

You have to transfer your license within a certain period (I thought 3 months) if coming over on a permanent visa.

Having an Aussie license is also extremely handy for identification for banks, rentals etc.

To get it transferred here, you make an appointment in advance at vic roads, get your pic taken on arrival, and a new plastic license made on the spot, and you are outside again in about 15/20 minutes.

It's now 6 months. And just to be pedantic you don't have to change in that time limit, it's just that your UK one is only valid for that time.

Mr Pedantic :o
