Driving licence
 

Went on Friday to get my aussie licence and they would only put C class on (car only).I was told that if I wanted the motorbike category I would have to take a test as a learner even though I passed the test in the U.K. 20 years ago.
My brother-in-law has LR (Light Ridged up to 8 tonnes) on his licence as well as C and says they just put it on.
Just wondered if any one else has come across this and has had to retake their motorbike test.Also any clue as to what weight limit C class allows you to drive. This is for W.A.

QLD. Got my bike one put straight on.

Here are the qld limits.

# C (car)

- a moped
- a motor vehicle weighing 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass (GVM) or less, built or fitted to carry a maximum of 12 passengers including the driver, with or without a trailer weighing 9 tonnes GVM or less
- a specially constructed vehicle weighing 4.5 tonnes GVM or less, with or without a trailer

According to WA transport site, if you come from a recognised country you can convert your oversea's licence without any further testing for class C & R only

• Motor carrier.

Eligibility requirements to hold class: Must have held R-E class for at least one year.

Hope that they have made a mistake. I asked what would happen if I only had a U.K. motorbike licence and wanted to get around, she said I would not be allowed to ride without taking a test.:(

An amendment was made to the Transport Operations (Road Use Management—Driver Licensing) Regulation 1999 on 1 March 2006, exempting New Zealand licence holders, and certain other overseas licence holders, from having to complete the written road rules test and pay the prescribed fee for a car and/or motorbike licence.

Queensland Transport recognises driver licences issued from the following countries: UK...
Applicants from these counties (excluding applicants from external territories of those recognised countries) are not required to take a written road rules or practical driving test when applying for a car or motorcycle licence in Queensland.

Testing requirements do apply for overseas licence holders when applying for a heavy vehicle (classes LR, MR, HR, HC and MC) licence. Successful completion of the written road rules test and the practical driving test for heavy vehicle classes still apply. Driver licence holders who currently hold a heavy vehicle class of licence issued from New Zealand will only be required to take a written road rules test on heavy vehicles.

It seems that they added LR to sister and brother-in-law by mistake and did'nt allow mine. Suppose I will have to go back on Monday and hopefully get someone who knows what they are doing.

We changed our licences 1 week after we arrived and my husband had car & motorbike put on straight away, no questions!
