Drive from Melbourne to Sydney
Plan to take a fairly leisurely drive from my home in Melbourne to Sydney starting tomorrow (away 3/4 nights?)
Can anyone suggest anywhere reasonably priced, but decent to stay - enroute and in Sydney.
Thanks Cas

Re: Drive from Melbourne to Sydney
When we drove from Melbourne to Sydney last year we stopped half way in Wagga Wagga. We found a house to stay in (It was just for the 1 night), via the Internet. It's a nice little town a short drive off the Hume Highway. Took about a 6 hour drive from Melbourne and the same again into Sydney.
Can't help much with the Sydney accommodation as we stayed with friends in Wollongong, but I'm sure there'll be other on here who could help you.

Sorry, can't help with accommodation suggestions but just a bit of advice for anyone doing same. If you have the time, go the coastal route from Melbourne to Sydney, it is so much better than the inland route. I've done it quite a few times going inland both ways, inland one way and coastal the other and vice-versa. The southern coastal towns of NSW and eastern Victoria in particular are well worth the extra distance and effort. Good luck!

I love driving, but my time is a bit limited , and I will be wanting to stop on the way.

We stopped the first night in a place called Bermaguie (not sure if I have spelt it right), accomodation was cheap and scenery was amazing! We then stopped in Jervis Bay which was also really nice (although accomodation a bit more pricey..but I guess it depends what kind of place you stay in).

I've done both routes too. I'd agree that the inland route is pretty bland compared to the coast. Last time I went the inland way we diverted to Tumut for a few days and had a look round one of the Hydroelectric power stations, also stopped in Canberra and had a look at the pollies in Parliament House. Also stopped at the dog on the tuckerbox which is very much commercialised but still, very quaint. Races were on at Gundagai that day too so went there as well.
