The dreaded Meds!!!

Can anyone offer some advice on the meds? My husband has Type 1 insulin dependent diabetes, it is well controlled with no associated health problems. Will this be a problem, has anyone else been in this situation? :confused:

Haven't got the condition but would just say: get a detailed letter from your GP about when he developed it, how he deals with it, what drugs he is on, how it affects his life etc etc.

The panel doc will ask for it and may make a more favourable decision if everything is in front of him at the time.

I know other people with quite severe diabetes who passed so I wouldn't worry too much. The only thing that might happen would be that he would be asked to see a consultant for more info (could possibly avoid this with detailed GP letter) and you may get six months to validate instead of 12 months.

Hi,
I am a diabetic on insulin and passed the medicals.
Afer the panel doctor submitted the medicals, we recieved an envelope which had another sealed one inside which had to go to the panel doctor. It asked for more information. I was asked for a 24 protien urine test, HBA1C and a report from my specialist doctor.
I also submitted copies of a report on heart condition I had. I heard you need ECG if you dont have a report. The panel doctors I went to was very thorough.
All was as good as could be expected but not perfect.
We were granted PR visa's last year and have been in oz for 5 months and love it here!
I also trawled the news group when I was due to go for medicals and found plenty of controlled diabetics get through. There were people who did not get visa's but only ones that had really bad control or serious secondary problems.
Best of luck

[QUOTE=sa2oz]Hi,
Have a young daughter with type 1. Would you recommend doing the meds early (before request) in order to speed things up?
I can also take the last 5-10 HbA1c results to the meds, if this would help.
Have already got a letter from her specialist (in scrawly doctor script) that I'm going to send with the app. form, stating that she has well controlled diabetes - If we ever get our Vetassess back that is!
