Downside of Citizenship

I've got to shell out over $600 on passports for us all. :scared:

I'm going to make the most of not having to queue up with all the foreigners when returning to Perth later this year though. :D

I hadn't thought of that aspect, I was more concerned about having to vote. :mad:

The two times I have come through using my British passport with visa in it, I have used the Aussie line and no one said anything :D

Your hubby's an Aussie isn't he? You're allowed to do it if you're married to a citizen.

I don't mind doing jury service, I'd be worried if it were an organised crime/bikie case though as I reckon lots of jurors get threatened and I feel the cops are pretty powerless over this sort of thing.

Oh ok, sorry, assumed it was the same for anyone with PR visa in the Passport. After all the aggro you go through to get the visa you'd think you would get some perks :rolleyes: :)

Hey Renth, I can trump you. *sigh*

Australian Citizenship certificate for Aussie born daughter - to get UK passport quickly. $$
4 x Passport photos x 2 as they end up not matching new regulations and need replaced $
4 x UK passports for trip home $$$$ (at least we saved $175 by beating the deadline for the new biometric-and-pay-to-put-ourselves-on-Charles-Clarke's-pet-spy-database version)
3 x RRV's to get back into the country after our trip $$$
1 x Aussie passport to bring daughter back into country (no RRV for Aussie citizens) $$

THEN

Citizenship x 3 $$$$
Australian passports x 3

I haven't dared work out the total cost.

We're waiting patiently for our ceremony, we should have done it last year but were so busy building the house it fell by the wayside.

I haven't dared work out the total cost.

It preyed on me after I posted this and I decided to bite the bullet and work it out. I've put the relevant figures in to the quoted text. It comes to $1941 for a family of four to get set up for both countries. Hopefully the figures above will help someone else out. It was worth it to help me to stay out of the UK identity database for ten years though. If you feel the same then "renew for freedom" during May (see www.no2id.org .)
