Default Dogs in WA

Hi

We are moving to Perth in June with our Cocker Spaniel. We will be living on an estate on the coast. Is it safe to leave your dog in the garden whilst you are at work? we are abit worried about spiders and snakes. We will have the house and garden sprayed once a year, but is there anything else we could do? If a dog is bitten say by a redback, wolf spider is it fatal?

Also would we have to treat our dog for paralysis ticks?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Jo

Hi Jo
We live near the coast and the dogs spend most of the day in the garden, we haven't had a problem with spiders or snakes, we have the place sprayed every year, i have killed a few red backs but not seen many.
Apparently paralysis ticks are more of a problem over east , my sisters dog brought one back from there and the only place that could treat him was at Murdoch University (Vets).
The only problem we have had are bee stings, our dogs react badly to them just had to pay $200 dollars again today for one or them.
Not too much to worry about

Why don't you keep your dog inside ? Less hazards !

Yes that would really work well if you have handbag dog or a lap dog, But some breeds need a bit of space to run around and not practical or fair to leave locked up inside all day

Mine are always in the house when we are out, wouldn't dream of leaving them outside wherever we were, less hazards for them with regards to heat/snakes/theft etc and also if you have neighbours fairer on them as well if you live in a built up area.

Thank you for thinking of your neighbours. We have a family who live behind us who leaves their collie dog outside ALL THE TIME. It barks almost constantly, which drives us absolutely batty. The poor thing is hot in the summer, wet and cold in the winter and bored shitless all year.

yes i know exactly what you mean,in dalyellup bunbury having dogs must be in the land package:curse: brit friends of ours always seem to be considerate with their dogs, walking them, taking them in at nite etc,but gennerally a lot of aussies never walk them, leave them in the backyard day and nite to bark until they drop,we had to report 2 of our neighbours to the ranger just so we could sleep at nite
