Default Dogs travelling to Brisbane from Sydney

Hello dog lovers

There must be lots of people who have picked their dogs up from quarantine in Sydney and taken them back to Brisbane. I know it is probably a silly question but what travelling methods have you used? If by car have you stopped anywhere overnight with them or have you just drove all the way with just toilet breaks. Any experience on this would be appreciated.

Thanks x

Honestly - dont think about driving it. 14 hours in a car journey with conditions not that much better than a plane in terms of cramped space isnt that kind.

We arranged for http://www.dogtainers.com.au/index.html to pick up our Doberman from the Quarantine Station, take him to Sydney airport and put him on the flight to Brisbane. We simply picked him up from Brisbane airport and he spent less than 3 hours travelling.

For $320 it was frankly a bargain in terms of price, time for a 2/3 day round trip for us and the comfort of our dog.

I can recommend them completely and we arranged everything from Brisbane which meant that when we arrived and poor Max was serving time we were free to go and find somewhere to live and so on. All it took was one call and they did the rest.

The only thing you will need to do is pay the Quarantine Stations fees and fax them a letter of authorisation to collect your dog. Too easy

Thanks Centurion. Really had no idea that we could do this and so easy. You have made my OH happy as he thought he was going to have to drive and pick them up. Another question, if you don't mind (assuming you rented at first) was it easy to get a rental with dog(s), as this is our next worry on todays list.

Thanks again x

hey the drive is quite a good one!!!!!!

he went down had a day in sydney, and then the following day collected the dogs and drove them back up to brisbane - and it didn't take us 14 hours (and that was on a sunday)

we hired a 4x4 over the weekend, left on thursday night (drove overnight through choice), went to a gig on friday night, day at the beach on saturday and got the dogs on sunday morning, getting back to brisbane by midnight.

plenty of stops, and the dogs were totally chilled roaming about in the back of the car or sniffing out of the window!

The rental was ok but only because I offered to pay the rent up front. If you are in that position then the dog thing is made heaps easier. Otherwise its just that a few properties wont allow them full stop. Most will say no pets but its a standard clause put in by the agent and not necessarily the landlord.

Ask the agent to enquire with the landlord no matter how much they whine that its not standard.

You'll be right Im sure.
