Dog home from quarantine today !
We were reunited with our dog (Weimeraner) today. All of us were waiting with excitement for this day and it finally arrived.
She flew from London to Sydney through AIRpets and spent 30 days in quarantine before flying to Brisbane this morning through JETpets.
Her time in Sydney was spent in Eastern Creek Quarantine Station and they have looked after her excellently. Like many pet owners we worry about our pets being away but she has lost no weight and is in great condition. She did have a dose of the diaorhea (sp) due to travelling and change of diet on her second day and they called the local vet - $105.00 bill for 2 tablets and travel costs !!! However she was fine on day 3 and good ever since. We kept in contact with her handler at the station and she was able to tell us how she was.
Kids are over the moon to see her back home, it has really made us a complete family again.
To any other people worried about flying pets to Oz, don't worry they are very well cared for in quarantine and you can contact them daily (if neccessary) to speak to the handlers.

Hi glad to hear that everything went smoothly. We also have a Weimeraner who will bre travelling over the beginning of next year. We are thinking about not visiting as then he wil only have to go through the stress of us leaving once and not every day. He is quite clinging so that is our decision. Did you visit yours at all? I am assuming not as you were in brisbane

I made one error in my first posting, she flew back from Sydney to Brisbane with SKYPETS, they were excellent and very professional. If you need their phone number in Oz it is: 61 2960 65522.
Whatever you do don't worry all the pets are well cared for.

Re: Dog home from quarantine today !
We too bought our mutt with us, although it turned out to be a very expensive and stressfull exercise. She was due to fly out a couple of weeks before us, but at the last stage she failed one of her blood tests
So we saw our vet again, and he treated her for the apparent infection - for something she was innoculated against and which would probably have killed her long ago and we tested again, given the timeframe I had the samples sent by motorcycle courier to the government lab for testing. Failed again.
At this point the validity of one of the previous test results expired - so we arranged a final round of tests before we had to fly, and again had the samples sent to the lab by courier - failed again In the words of our vet - this is mad, she would be at deaths door if she were infected.
Now we had a problem, the hound went to my parents and we had to fly. The decision was made to hold off testing for a while, during this time the vet treated her with just about everything he could think off to try and clear up whatever was messing up the results, although in the vets opinion there never was anything wrong with the dog apart from no brain (she's a Dalmation)
She had to be tested twice more before she passed. Then two days before she was due to fly she got her tail shut in a door - the vet advised waiting - but Airpets (who were great throught the whole business) could not get her on another flight for two weeks, by which time the test results would have expired, so we took a chance, she was patched up, boxed up, and sent.
When I called the quarantine station to check up on her, they were great, helpful and had her tail checked out, they said whoever did the repairs had done a great job and there were no problems. Called to check on her once a week and had her flown to adelaide by skypets - again a great service and finally our hound is with us. Today she was being a pest so I threw her in the pool ....
It was all worth it in the end ..

P.S. I own a Golden Retriever - these are known to be highly intelligent, however, this didnt stop her walking into a lamp-post (which had to hurt!!) when busy barking at another dog!!!!!

Thanks for all your posts - it's reassuring to know that the pets are well looked after and dont change whilst they are in quarantine.
We will be taking two cats, but have heard they are also looked after well..

Re: Dog home from quarantine today !
We have a 3 year old boxer and I am transferring to Sydney with my job on 01/10/04 with a temp 457 visa but my partner will complete his studies and come out permanently next May we hope. If the dog undergoes and passes all tests and gains a pets passport then if we do return to the UK then does anyone know if the dog has to be put in quarantine in the UK?
Look forward to hearing from any in the know! Thanks

Good news about your pooch. Get a bit worried every now and then about my 3 cats, but I know they'll love sun worshiping out there. Living in Scotland, they don't get much!
