A lot of wily old expats use frequent flyer points. By flying BA/Cathay Pacific/Qantas you acquire points, top them up by paying for everything on your Aussie credit card and then redeem them for free flights or upgrades.

If you fly regularly for business it is worth it but the extra you pay to get those points will surpass any value of flights you get. The airlines also restrict the available flights.

You can save yourself several hundred dollars by flying on a better non BA Qantas flight and use that cash for a flight that would otherwise take years of credit card spending to aquire.

Why don't you book a flight on the internet with a UK company? Surely if they fly from UK to Oz they can give you a price from Oz to UK?

Generally it is cheaper to buy a flight ex the country you are leaving.
If you lok on expedia.co.uk you can try it both ways but you will see the flight ex UK will generally be cheaper, soemthing to do with taxes I think.

Easy way round it, get a job with an airline! cheap flights forever!

Tried that several times, just get told ticketing regulations dont allow us to buy at UK prices, dont know if its true or not, but been led to believe its easily controlled by taxes that have to be levied from Australia. None of the luxury of cheap international travel for us in Aus. When you take into account aus wages going overseas is a :scared: proposition.
