Does it matter whats in your suite case???
 

Iv been wondering what to do with my electricians hand tools, either ship them on there own or stick them in my case. Does anyone know if it matters if they are in the case i.e do i need to declare them in any way:confused:

I'm not sure but you may have to get some kind of permit to take them in your case.

My mate is a chef and he took his knives in his case but had to get a permit or something from the airline.

Don't forget your tools need to be really clean as well - absolutely under no circumstances can you have any wood/sawdust on them

Also might be an issue with the weight - if your kit is like my oh's it weighs a tonne.

Yes one of my two cases is just going to be for the tools,23kg. Im just taking my best hand tools and meters. We arnt shipping anything else so it would have been nice to get them in one of the cases. Iv had a quote to ship them in a small t chest. All in £130 door to door by sea, that may have to be the option. I may contact the airline!:thumbup:

don't forget the insurance aspect as well Stu. Some of them meters are awfully expensive and it is a greater chance of a suitcase getting lost. You may be better of insurance wise to ship it!

Not sure on the rules regarding port of entry in Aus but the Airlines are usually OK with tools, I take tools to Florida on most trips without any problems, I also took a suitcase full to Mauritius for a couple of weeks to work on a car, again no problems in or out.
You may need to have them checked in separately the same way as over sized and child's car seats etc which is usually just a short walk to the end check in's.

Well i had a set of knives and steak knives for my 30th from my mom and I wont be able to take them to oz will I?
I am not having a container as I cant afford it..:blink:

I brought a BBQ set that I won in raffle back to the UK from Florida last year and I had no problems, bearing in mind that the Americans are seriously paranoid since 911 and have some of the strictest customs personnel in the world (jobs worths), one of the knives it this kit is nearly 2ft long stainless steel all packed in a metal briefcase. So long as you don't take it in your hand luggage I don't see a problem, check with your airline.

Yeh you will - said in earlier reply - contact the airline they will sort - like the bbq guy said, you won't be able to take it in you hand luggage but shouldn't be a problem in your case!:)

I have the the same issues, i need to take 1 case (10KG) and 1 bag (5KG).

I think i'll wait until i arrive and i have an address, then i'll have them sent over by some one like DHL.
Has anyone else done this?

If you fly with Singapore and have a PR visa you are entitled to 40kg, believe that is any shape or form.
Or you could use Crown Relocations, www.crownexpress.co.uk believe they are quite good for big or small packages. C x

Hi Shiels,

The problem we have is we're going to travel a bit on the way, catching 2 flights with Bankok airways.
I'll struggle carrying round my case round Thailand, it kills me to carry it to the roof every day:rofl:

I got the quote off excessbaggage.com, only thing is they havent stopped pestering me since:frown: Think i'll ring air new zealand tomorrow just to play safe and if i can put them in my case look at insurance seperate for them. Thanks for the advice guys:thumbsup:
