Default Does hose-pipe ban also apply to drip-irrigation?

In the past, I've used drip-irrigation to water plants, shrubs and so on in the garden. This uses substantially less water than using a hose-pipe. Do people use this method of irrigation in Australia and is it allowed during a hose-pipe ban?

In South Australia at the moment at least you can. Google for where you plan to live and you will find out.

I agree, it depends on where you are and what stage restrictions you are at. You would be allowed to use drip irrigation in Canberra in the same way that you could use hand watering and for the same time period/specific days - not open slather use it when you want though.

Edited to say that if you get yourself a rain water tank or a grey water tank then you will be able to water your plants whenever and however you need to.

With us there's no hose-pipe ban for watering your garden you're just restricted to certain times. Typically 2 hours twice a week. Similar rules apply for dripper hoses although the times are different between manual and automatic.

Weve been limited to 36 hours per week, hose pipe use, for the last few years, but now the dams are filling up, (our local on is full) and we have a lot more water available, we are being reduced to about 8 hours per week.

Isn't life confusing

Bottom line is:
Different Councils in Different States have different rules.

We have two days a week we can water here in Melbourne for two hours. No sprinklers. We are on stage 3a water restrictions.. You did not say where you are. Everywhere will be different.

I'm not in Oz yes but I'm planning on moving to Melbourne. We're planning on building a home. We did this in Florida and integrated a drip-irrigation system into the build.

I presume you mean that this is provided you are using the reclaimed water?

How common is it for people to install water reclamation & storage equipment in single-family homes in Australia (Melbourne)? Are they typcial with new builds or do you have to go out of your way to get them installed? How much do they add to the cost of a home?

Our garden is fully integrated drip feeder and comes on for 40 minutes per day (but timed for early morning).

Still manage to keep usage overall down to under 400 per day with 2 adults and 2 children.

Garden is lush
just watch what you flush
