Hi, im in the process of deciding if i should go bankrupt or no, wont go into details but in a great deal of financial difficulty.

Does being a bankrupt in the Uk effect my chances of immigaration in the futre??

I have looked through previous threads and think i have my answer but would like to double, triple check

I don't know the answer but would be interested in any replies as I have a friend in a position like yourself. He is deciding if he should declare himself bankrupt but he will be applying on a spouse visa if he does actually apply, that may make the difference.

You might want to go to Dimias website (www.immi.gov.au) and download the booklet 6 on general migration and form 47sk - these are the application forms for a visa. Then you can read on there wether there are any financial status questions. Assuming you are coming over on a skilled visa.

Bankruptcy wont show up on a Police Check, nor in your medical(!) so if its not requested on the 47sk then thats the only place they would ask for it. I cant think its an issue.

No it will not go against you at all my best m8 went bankrupt and now lives in Australia,he was not even asked about his financial record in the UK,so get on with it and get yourself out here M8 you will love it.

i agree... financial history not considered at all.....

only problem is you will burn your bridges for going back to uk in future

its all looking good to me, i dot intend to leave debts behind in he uk, i will be going bankrupt and therefore my credit rating is nil for 6 years weather i live here or not.
