Polly, maybe you need a family.

Polly, maybe you need a family. All the couples I know without kids go out. More of a city thing.

Since when did having a family require you to have kids??

Always, otherwise you're just a couple.

Seriously, sorry, I'm trying to cook dinner and my daughter is jumping up and down on the laptop forcing me to post so I don't lose my work...

its a lifestyle/area thing.

All the people I know don't really barbie in a sterotypical way and seperate in to 2 - people have people over to dinner where beer and wine is offered with a meal.

If a bloke/girl in the city asked me for a beer I would also have to excuse myself on the basis I need to get home to my kid and wife. Doesn't make it Victorian!

In my company there is a mix of family people and young people. In a lot of jobs there are alot of family people - especially out of town so you need to look at the area and the lifestyle really.

I disagree with you. At risk of sounding like a PC monster, there are many different types of families. I consider my self and my husband to be one of those types.

That's OK - no offence taken.

I have a family, they live on the other side of the world; I have a husband, he prefers to stay in most nights, I'm not maternal and couldn't cope with kids, not the right temperament....plus if we had kids we would go out even less due to being veerrrrrrrrry broke

Thank God I'm not the only one! - I'm 33 and don't have a maternal bone in my body ...could think of nothing worse than having kids. Most people think I'm weird (well, suppose I wouldn't disagree there ).
Fortunately my OH, who is 39, doesn't really want kids either - reckon it would get in the way of our social life too much
So if and when we ever move to Oz it's got to be city life all the way and plenty of

In aus the girls as not as big drinkers as the brits and socially a chat over a cup of coffee seems to be the way or tuperware evening etc, and they do drink at barbecues but a few wines and they suffice , merry enough. They dont spend the same amount of money on socialising as the brits do . For example a huge day out for them would be a meeting at the local bakers etc.
Obviously I cant speak for all , and all aussies and it will most defin differ, but only in my experience thats what i've sussed out.

I went to my first 'Tupperware' party last Friday, we didn't buy much (too expensive), however, we were drinking until 1.30am, a good night was had by all, well except for the 'Tupperware' lady!

I'm afraid I can't understand the mentality of people who think you have to have kids to 'complete your life and make you a family' - what utter bollocks! We have a son but could easily have gone through life without a child. Yes he was 'planned' - not an 'accident'. It scares me teh amount of Aussies with large families - kids of 24 who have already had 5 kids and want more - call that a life???

well when we socialise at a barbie or similar where there are more than two families present it always seems to split into male and female groups. This suits me just fine as I don't have to be bored to death listening to non-riveting conversation about cars / motobikes / boats and engines. And to be fair they probably don't want to listen to us discussing children / tupperware / the price of lettuce or bananas

I've never heard of women going to tupperware parties...

Anyhoos. I think Aussie and Brit women are the same in their freedoms. Australia was the 2nd country in the world to give women the vote (behind NZ).

I do notice a lot more groups of older women going out in the UK. I think this is kinda frowned upon in Australia. Usually if you are married, or have kids you wouldn't go out a get drunk with your girl mates. This could be because cities are small in Australia and we don't have a huge population so you're more likely to bump into someone you know etc.

I do notice Aussie and Brit men to be VERY different. Aussie males really are alpha males. I can pick them from a mile away because they are usually browner, taller and have this attitude/walk like ' i'm so cool'.

But why should girls on a night out be worried about bumping into someone they know? The double standards are ridiculous - never bothers the blokes, doesn't make THEm stay in - never bothered my mayes and I in the UK - so why does it bother Aussie women? Why are so many of them so scared about letting their hair down?

Err well Aussie men wouldn't be out on the town dancing... They'd be in some old mans pub well hidden.

Older English women are usually out hitting bars and dancing... nothing wrong with that.

BUT... it that was my mum... i'd die. If it was my dad.... i'd die too!!!
And as I said in Oz the population is smaller so there's more chance of seeing someone you know.

As a younger Aussie I notice we drink as much as the English girls, in fact the Aussie ones are the ones with the bad names around London... getting too drunk and being idiots. But then again... we don't know anyone here so we can do stuff like that in ol' London town without it getting back to your mum (I just feel sorry for the local who have to listen to us hehe).
