Default Does Australia / NZ labor agreements apply to non-citizens?

Suppose a foreigner goes acquires permanent residency in Australia or NZ, then later decides to work in the other country. I've heard that citizens can easily work in either country. Is this also true for permanent residents?

New Zealand permanent residents have no special rights in Australia.

Australian permanent residents do have rights in New Zealand, at least for now, but there are a lot of traps for the unwary. You can lose your Australian PR, to start with.

It's not a smart idea to 'hop' across the Tasman without citizenship - people have been left without status in either country from doing this.

And even if you get NZ citizenship, you'll find that NZ citizens no longer get full permanent resident rights in Australia unless they meet the normal rules and apply like anyone else.

That's a bummer.. I was hoping to straddle with one foot in each country. It seems there's a slight advantage to applying in Australia, but I'm slightly more interested in making things work in NZ.

What's the cost of getting PR in Australia?
