Hi Claire
We absolutely love Adelaide definately the right decision we ever made.
Everyone has their own opinion about the place, so best to come out and see for yourself.
We have a lovely house, in a lovely area, kids go to the local school and we have a fantastic bunch of friends, some ozzie, some poms, life couldnt be better Hubbie has a good well paying job too.

Gets a big thumbs up from our family of 5. Has afforded us so many exciting opportunities we never could have experienced in the UK. In 9 months we have bought an old house on a large block that we plan to knock down and build new on next year. Have bought a block of land at Point Boston on the Eyre Peninsula that we will just sit on until we can afford to build future holiday home, (long way off, mind). We didn't come with stacks of cash, just a comfortable sum from the sale of our house and now we've jumped straight out of our comfort zone into 2 exciting/stressful projects. Something we never would have done in the UK, but it feels great to be focussed on new challenges after a lengthy migration process. Don't believe we could have achieved this in any other city, but property and land in high demand areas here are still affordable but rising. Combine this with the great friends we have made and our lives are far from boring. Adelaide gets an unfair deal from too many ill-informed people. I remember talking to a couple from NSW who we met in Singapore, who told us to prepare ourselves for a quiet life....well our lives have never been so busy, full and exciting. We love it here.

I love that it has a country town feel whilst you're in a city. I love the layout... the spot was picked especially. It lies at the bottom of the hills next to a river and the founder went 'Yay, here's the spot and it rocks' or words to that effect.
It's green and open, even in the centre of the city...
The surrounding countryside is just gorgeous.
I love the people...
It's got lovely restaurants, interesting stuff to do and places to go, it's child friendly and the coffee's great.
If I wasn't living here, I'd be living there.

Read "Return to Oz" by John Brown. He grew up in Adelaide, then returned there in recent years. It gives you a flavour of the city. You can get it from Amazon.
My friend lives in South Australia (near Adelaide), has done since birth, and spent 2 yrs in London recently before returning. In his opinion its a nice place, but it a backwater compared to the worlds more major cities. He'd now rather live in Melbourne or Sydney, but if you're just after a quieter life then Adelaide probably has what you need.
