True, Norovirus, the dreaded shite and puke virus, goes around time and time again here, it loves the warm conditions and no doubt not helped by the no soap etc in school toilets but that was another thread.

Flu this year was chronic, flu jabs made no difference, though I had escaped it till last week, omg ill or what.

Asthmas bad in OZ too, one in 4 kids.

Same lurgies shiner puke bucket

Swimming pools too, many people run the pool filter as little as possible for economy. And every summer the councils put out warnings of what breeds in nice warm pool water eek: Home pools are a huge cause of tummy bugs and ear infections, ask any doctor.

I know loads of folk who are always ill but our family (touch wood) have never been healthier. In 2 and a half years I can count on 1 hand the number of times we have been ill in total.

So take good care of yourselves

Ditto. Had what I thought was a cold and because only 1 of us was working at the time I continued to go to work. Ended up with pneumonia one week before Christmas last year. Just when the abx started kicking in got a bladder infection. Those abx were the wrong ones and it ended up becoming a kidney infection. Four weeks of antibiotics and painful pee over the holidays. On the plus side I haven't had a cold sore in over a year.

Yes, people get just as sick here as they do anywhere else.

We all live in mansions on the beach, work around 10 hrs per month, and have BBQ,s round the pool for the rest of the time.

I did hear a rumour that they were thinking of building a hospital just in case anybody ever got ill, that got laughed at very loudly.

OZ really is a land of milk and honey, the pigs even fly here, you just shoot one down to fire up the barbie round the pool.

So to pose another daft question what do people do for sick pay in oz. I am shortly moving to Queensland and my new employer Queensland Health seems to only offer 2 weeks sick pay, unless I have read it wrong!

mmm not sure haven't needed a sick day yet but I think in my contract I am only paid for 14 days as well.

Sick pay does accumulate each year so whatever isn't used within a year is added onto the next year's.

If you don't have enough days to cover the time you're sick - well - you don't get paid. It makes sense to not waste sick pay by taking 'sickies' (AKA a day off) unnecessarily.

You just have to hope that you don't get ill until you've been in the job for a couple of years!
