Doctors notes?
 

:confused: I`ve done searches on this and am still undecided, so can anyone help me?
I was looking at whether I needed to get doctors notes to take over to Oz, but read that unless you have a pre-existing medical condition, there was no point. I have asthma, and hubby has cholesterol tablets. Is it really necessary to take doctors notes or not? We had a real ball-ache getting documentation when we went for our medicals and don`t want to have to go through it all again unless absolutely necessary.

Hi Sharon, when I was preparing to come, I went to talk to the receptionist at my GP's and she just did me a print off of the summary of our medical records. It's maybe half a dozen pages for each of us, and their was never any question of them charging. I gave her a box of choc's for making the effort! :)

What exactly does a summary of medical records consist of :confused: (sorry to be thick) :o When I had print-offs just for our medicals, the receptionist charged me £29.00 :eek:

Sharon, You don't need them, I got mine but only because it was easy. However you have the right to have access to them under the data protection act, they can charge a reasonable fee for this though.

If I don`t get them, will I have any problem getting medication when in Oz?
i.e :- ventolin and cholesterol tablets
If not, then I`m not going to bother.

I cannot guarantee it, but if you just go to the docs when you get out here and explain your medical history there should be no issues. It might be worth bringing copies of prescriptions / medicines.

what she gave me was a print off of the computer records they hold for each of us, which lists health status, medication, all consultations etc. This may be what you were given for your £29, sounds like I was lucky not to be charged.
Maybe take a copy of your prprescriptionith you, or even just pharmacy dispensed medication to show an Aussie GP should be enough to get it prescribed here.
I also asked my dentist to fill in a ququestionnaireor each of the four of us, for my husbands company who are paying for health insurance, and she didn't charge either.

Is this what I need for the children? I know that some schools ask for the innoculation certificates, I only have my red book. Do I get a signed confirmation from my doc, or a medical record?

I think the receptionist at my doctors was called Dick Turpin :D
The £29.00 they charged was for me and our 2 girls. Hubby goes to a different doctor and he was charged £1.33. I think I drew the short straw :eek: :mad:

ah, yes, I'd forgotten about that.
It will depend where you are sending the kids to school, ours have gone into private - thats again thanks to hubbys employers. We were given a whole heap of forms they wanted filling in before the kids started, and a section of this included a full medical history, imunisation history, weight, height and a urine test - all signed by a gp. We timed it well that this was done when the kids had medicals for his works insurance cover.
I'm told that a lot of people come without this and go to a local GP on arrival.
However, I'm sure that most schools won't be quite so bad. Your red book has to be accepted as an official immunisation record, each jab is documented and signed for isn't it as it's done?
I really wouldn't stess about it :)

Yeah, it was signed every time I remembered to take it with me! Don't worry, it's down the bottom of my "Things to stress about" list! Might get one anyway, just to get it right! Thanks! :)

You can buy ventolin over the counter in Oz, and it's dirt cheap - about £3.50 for two!

There was a thread a while back with a link to an on-line Australian pharmacy, cant remember the name now though, and the had packs of 2 ventolin inhalers for $8.00 AUD.

Don't know about cholesterol tablets though?

was only asking for you the other day hope your well chuck?

i went to docs got all the bloody copies and they cost me a fortune.....and you guessed it you dont need them!

obviously unless you have any long standing health issues, for things like asthma ext just bring you medication
