Doctors?
 

Got a bit of an ongoing problem with the hubby!!!!! Thats another story but anyway....... to cut a long story short, for the past 2 months he has had a bad rash all over his body which is really itchy. He has seen 2 doctors in the Bay, who have no idea what it is. To make matters worse he was prescribed anti histamine tablets at the same time because his face became swollen. Anyway 2 months on and still no answers. 2 blood tests done and nothing. The best they could come up with was cream to rub on it!!! He is rapidly losing respect for the docs.
So...... does anyone know of any half desent doctors in Hervey Bay, English would be great!!!!!

I would consider going to the local hospital, and telling them that the doctors can't find the problem.

I'd keep looking, hopefully someone can figure it out.

In the meantime you could change your laundry detergent into something really gentle (suitable for babies). When I was in university I suddenly become allergic to the stuff I'd been using for years. It took a while to figure out what was happening.

That probably isn't what's going on but it wouldn't hurt to try it anyway to see what happens. In the very least you could tell the doctors you've tried it.

Could well be an allergy. Get the docs at the hospital to do a full spectrum allergy test.

Forgive me if this sounds like an odd question but what's stopping you from asking the doctors you've already been to to refer to to a specialist in light of the fact that they have not been able to provide a diagnosis?

That's what I'd do. Going to a hospital if it's not an accident or emergency will have you sitting on a chair waiting for triage for hours and they'll probably just send you away to find a doctor.

My husband had this back in the 1990's, hives would appear all over him, facial swelling that docs diagnosed as angioodema(sp?).

He saw a specialist who laughed and said 'it was an act of god' - my god I was pissed off at that, tests later proved he had a high and dangerous allergy to grass seeds resulting in an adrenaline injection when he had the skin test as he couldnt breathe.

However, I saw a program ages ago in the UK, a woman had the same thing and it was linked to her drinking cola and once they realised that, she stopped it and the problem stopped.

We dont know exactly what caused my husbands allergic reaction but it did stop.

You feel helpless and frustrated and it doesnt help when the 'experts' cannot help you either.

I know the woman on TV - I think it was 'the food doctors' or something, she did an elimination diet but it was done under supervision.

He could be allergic to something simple, I would suggest you make notes of when it first started, what his favourite regular food/drinks are, write down symptoms of when they first appear/severity etc and maybe you might find a food/drink that keeps cropping up with the allergy.

Ask for a referral to a dermatologist or an allergist. Or the dermatology allergy clinic.

Why an English doctor? What difference does ones nationality make? Does where they train make a difference to you? If so, I'd be curious to know why? What if it is an Iraqi-born, British national who was trained in NZ now working in Oz.....for example?? :) OK - so it may seem like I'm taking the P, but us medics really do get around!!

My mum was the same. As soon as she stopped drinking Cola her skin cleared up. May be worth cutting it out if he drinks it.

Ref English doctors.......... Here in the Bay there seems to be a shortage of English speaking doctors, maybe i should have put that in in the original thread. Dont have any problem with doctors from any other country, my problem is understanding them. Or making myself understood!!!!!
Took my daughter to a doctor the other day with a pulled muscle and he insisted she was pregnant over and over again....... What he was actually trying to say was could she be pregnant.... frustrating to say the least.
Hubby has been advised by a herbalist to eat nothing but lamb, rice and pears for a week, oh and water then stop the tablets and slowing introduce different foods!!! Worth a try.

Angela, if you could take good quality pictures of your hubby's rash, you could PM me and I'd give you an email to send the pictures over. I could give you an idea of what your husband MIGHT be dealing with, and perhaps refer/point you in the right direction. I will need photos to be taken in natural light conditions :).

Sometimes what we are allergic to is no apparent. I had a really bad episode when I was in my late teens in New Zealand and they did a lot of tests and it ended up being the coleus plant that is the one people have a house plants in the UK with the red coloured leaves.

Also my mum had the same a few years ago and they it was a type of polyanthus. Its the one that comes in pots for inside and had many different colours.

Have you been near an Oleander bush, Rhus tree.

Just think what you have been near to in recently.

We can become allergic at any time and get asthma at any time so it may be something you are using as well. Lots of web sites here in Aus about allergies as lots of people have them.
