Doctors?

Couldn't find what I was looking for on search.

I need to get some meds when in Sydney. Do you have to register at a practice like in the UK or can you just get an appointment anywhere?

Thanks.

Mitch

If you can see any DR, how do you get repeat prescriptions if you can see a different DR every time. How do they know what meds you are on?

You tell them. I personally don't like the system, leaves a horrible gap becasue there are no consistent notes so what you hear from one doctor you can just ignore and go see another, but thats the way it works.

You don't HAVE to see a different doctor each time. You find one you like and then stick with them. They will keep all your records, just like they do in the UK. This is what most people do. The only real difference is that YOU can pick a doctor you like - instead of the NHS telling you which doctor is yours.

If you're suffering from something that needs repeat scripts and visits - you'd be nuts to chop and change doctors, anyway...

you can register at a GP's you like and always go back and see them, I do as I have a complicated medical history.

Repeat prescriptions are given and you hold that prescription with a number of repeats specified by your Dr when it runs out you have to see a Dr, it's easer to get them if you go back to the same Dr.

Thats perfect for what I need though, just need a repeat prescription done there instead of ringing back home and getting it mailed.

You might have to pay to see the doc for the prescription for the first time........ I was at the doc on Wed past and it was my first time at a Doc here in Aus............... My friend recommened this particular doctor and I will stick with the Doc she was brilliant............... My trip to doc cost $62 but got half of it back through medicare........... had to have blood tests and there was no charge

You probably will have to pay to see the doctor. They won't prescribe anything to a new patient without a consultation, first.

If you have a Medicare card and they bulkbill it won't cost you anything because Medicare pays the lot.

If they don't bulk bill, you will have to pay - but as long as you have a card you can claim some of it back.

Then, of course, you'll have to pay for the script at the chemist.

Yes, you almost certainly will have to pay because — apart from anything else — it's not a repeat prescription as far as the doctor is concerned, so he or she will probably want to see you in person.

If you get your medicare card first find a Dr who bulk bills and you won't have to pay

make sure you bring some information about your need for repeat medications from your GP and your repeat prescription too:thumbsup:

Balls I dunno where I've put that or if I've still got it even.

Thanks for your help, hopefully when I meet with some civilisation in Sydney they can help me sort some stuff out. As a returning citizen I'm finding things and the system a little awkward at the mo.
