Better turn up early in the morning as the blood tests will require fasting (eat or drink nothing besides a minimal amount of water starting at midnight the morning before your test)

The test MAY require fasting, however many labs have moved away from fasting lipid tests.

I've never had to fast prior to a blood test. Infact I'm generally asked if I've had breakfast so that I don't pass out even if I haven't and I don't.

This isn't necessarily the case. The OP should check with the lab or their GP.

I had a blood test about 6 months ago and was told to fast for 12 hours beforehand.

It depends on what they're checking for. We (quite rightly) don't know what the OP is being tested for. However presumably if they needed to fast, the doc would have told them.

Whether or not you need to fast will depend on the test being performed. There isn't a single blood test, there are multiple tests performed based on an analysis of a sample of blood.

I had a whole heap of blood taken a few weeks ago for analysis and didn't need to fast, my wife had some completely different tests at the same place and did need to fast.

Hence, my comment to speak to the place taking the blood to get a definitive answer as to what they want based on the blood test being performed instead of taking random advice from an online forum.
