do you need to take GP & Dental records from uk to OZ
just been on the "brilliant website for those moving to oz" thread and noticed it made mention of you requesting your records from your GP, Dentist and School.
Do you need to take these with you to Oz. Dont think ive heard of this before but it will just be something else I'll need to keep in mind nearer the time. Has anyone else asked for these from GP and Dentist?

Yes you do need to ask for these. We got full photo copies of all of our Medical Records from our GP (they charge for it and it can take a couple of days) but our Dentist said it wasnt necessary as our new dentist here will do an xray which will show them all they need to know.

No, you don't need to ask for them. In fact your Aussie Doctor will not be in the least bit interested. As for dental records, your teeth are your dental records.

Hi
Unless there is something which has to be monitored I wouldnt have thought you would need to, we didnt and we were never asked this end for any records.

We were told not to bother unless you have something that really concerns you.

We didn't bring ours either and it hasn't been a problem.

If someone an existing medical condition and/or takes medication for it, then this would be of interest to GP's and specialists I would think as it would verify the existence of the condition, treatment history and the need for medication

No you don't unless you specifically want them for some reason. Take your kids little red books for proof of immunisation and thats all you need.
I was pregnant when i arrived here and took my ante-natal notes with me, when i went to the clinic they didnt want to see them they really are not much interested in what has gone on before you got here.

Found this info on Dept of health website:-
Access to UK health records for those living abroad
Q
How can a person apply for access to their health records if they are not living in the UK?
A
In cases where a patient moves abroad, their GP health records are sent to the local Primary Care Trust and their hospital records are stored in the hospital or sent to a local archive. They are retained for the minimum period. Hospital records are kept for a minimum of 8 years following the end of treatment and GP records for 10 years, though please note that certain types of records are kept for longer. At the end of the minimum retention period the Records Manager at the Trust/hospital/archive will decide whether to retain further or destroy the records. Under the UK Data Protection Act 1998, a patient has the right to apply for access to copies of their health records. The request should be made in writing to the record holder(s), and a fee will be payable, with the maximum that can be charged set at £50.
Q
Can a person take their health records with them for their new doctor, if they are living outside the UK?
A
No. however patients can make a subject access request for copies of their records, and then take the copies with them. The GP may be prepared to provide the patient with a summary of the patient’s treatment to take to their new GP.
