Do you need a job in Tasmania or Australia ?
Then read on !!!!
Hi guys,
My wife used this forum constantly when we were going through the process of getting a visa-it was a long hard slog but trust me, its totally worth it!!
We are now settled here in Tassie and loving it! We both got jobs VERY quickly and jobs we actually like. Nat works in Superannuation (pension) and I am a specialist recruitment consultant for Hays.
This isn't just a message to remind you to keep at it-the visa will come!!-but also to let you know there are loads and loads of jobs in Tassie and Australia and being "down on the ground" I can help! I would love to hear from anyone coming to Australia or specifically Tasmania that have skills in the following areas:-
Any type of Design Engineering roles (Civil/Struct/all building services etc)
Planners (Stat. and Strat)
Architects
Civil Construction workers
Site Engineers
Drafters (civil or structural)
ANY tradies
Tasmania is crying out for people in these areas more than any other area of Australia and while the pay isn't as good as the mainland, the cost of living IS lower and the lifestyle is second to none plus the aging workforce means fast-track career progression is the norm! My clients are desperate for people with the background and experience in any area listed above so not having worked in Australia WONT be an issue.
If you are at all interested, please contact me on [email protected] and I'd be happy to help or even just give advice on Tassie! I have colleagues across Australia and can pass on details to them if (for some strange reason) you don't want to come to Tas!! I can't promise anything but I can do everything in my power to get more skilled people into the state before we reach meltdown.
Cheers
Rob (and Nat)

Nope-can't compete with that and having never been to Perth (where money grows on trees if you're in engineering!) I couldn't Tasmania over it. What I can tell you is it takes me 5 minutes to drive to work, $7 a day to park in the city, very few people work more than 45 hours a week, the projects are small but varied so you don't get bored, the people are genuinely nice and really do talk to everyone, the economy is good, house prices while much higher than a few years ago are still relatively low (wanna live 20 minutes from the city on 3 acres for less that $400k? No worries!) and the sky is always (ish!) blue. If its money you're after, yes, go to Perth. If its lifestyle and a fast-track career, come to Tassie!
PS Its first day of spring today-8am, 22 degrees and windy as hell!

Btw, I pay $8.50 to park in central Perth, although my commute is 30 minutes.
