Do you have to wear a cycle helmet in NSW?
Have heard mixed opinions about this.
Yes I know it will be in my best interests to get one and intend to, however I haven't been using one up until now.
Thanks
Simon

I'm pretty sure you do. It may be an urban myth but I am pretty sure you have to even on cycle routes and in parks etc. Everyone does out here anyway so you wont look like a numpty!

Yup, it's the law. And they can and will fine you if they spot you - unless you have a compelling religious reason why you may not wear a helmet. They have the added bonus of course in maggie season that you can poke bits of plastic or pipe cleaners or something in them to avoid being swooped.

Apparently NSW has just legalised the hook turn for cyclists.
Got to wonder why it was illegal in the first place
Is this another example of Sydney's reluctance to take on good ideas from Vic

Absolutely! I love this as there are no longer any arguments with my 15 year old. Trying to get him to wear a helmet in the UK was a constant battle as it was viewed as "uncool". I've told him that if he gets stopped and fined here he's paying so now he always wears one

You most certainly do have to wear a cycle hat in NSW; my neighbour is always pulling people over for this (he’s in the highway patrol).
