Do the ozzies go all out for CRIMBO or not?

I know that it is a silly question but it is one that I don't know the answer to.
What happens in Australia at christmas with tree's and decorations etc???
Do they have them?

It all seems a lot more laid back to me,,,but not surprising really considering the temperatures most days!!
Lots of decorations around but they dont seem quite right in the sunshine!
Personally I wont be cooking a huge Christmas dinner, will be having a BBQ at lunchtime and then we are going out to eat with friends in the evenings.
It will be very different to what we are used but hey,,thats why we came here :D

when i was in sydney at christmas 2004 they seemed to go crazy for seafood more than anything else, but me and the wife tried our best to make a christmas dinner at the caravan park in lane cove, it was cold on christmas day, but in the 30s a few days before. apparantly bondi was empty no backpackers for a change.

I'm still trying to find a christmas tree, when I looked on Sunday they'd all sold out.

There again, the work christmas party I went to on Friday night didn't have one decoration, santa hat or christmas song. It seems it was more of a pissup excuse.

While people new to the country might think christmas day in the sun and on the beach is a great idea, it just ain't christmas.

I have to say it's the one time of year I rather be back in a cold miserable country in a warm house with family and friends around. It just ain't the same here, and it's not such a "big" day.

Big.

not sure where abouts in Syd you are, but I did see signs (around the Burns Rd, Bobbin Head Rd intersection) that the scouts are selling trees this weekend. Also at the Fruit & veg place in Belrose (intersection along Mona Vale Rd diagonally opp Bunnings) had signs up for USA style trees.

Yep. Shops full of christmas stuff, adverts in newspapers & on TV, carol services etc. It's as commercialised as the UK. My wife went to buy a tree on Saturday & the guy was doing a roaring trade.
Australia is a western, christian country in every sense.

I'm with BG on this one it still doesn't feel like christmas one bit and no matter what I seem to do I cannot get in to the spirit of it.

Some go out to the local club for a slap up meal, but others stay in and have the family round.

(Couldn't resist after the pizza effort) :D

Lights of Lobethal.

Bill & Peg's Christmas Lights.

THOUSANDS of people lined city streets last night for the 34th RAC Channel 7 Christmas Pageant.

Young and old jostled for prime position, with 40 floats on display, 100,000 lights and 14 bands, led by the City of Perth Band.

The new start time of 8.30pm – caused by the introduction of daylight saving – was not the only change, with new additions to the 2.2km procession including Aladdin, Humpty Dumpty, a Hawaiian scene and Rudolph and family.

Family favourites back, with Fat Cat and his 15 fiddlers, as well as multicultural groups representing WA’s diverse population.
