An example of requirments for a government employed motor mechanic in QLD is :

You will be required to provide:
  • Documented certification by a suitably qualified assessor/assessment organisation demonstrating competencies to qualify as a C10 grade Engineer (motor mechanic).
  • Possession of a current MR (medium rigid) drivers’ licence.

Other than that, most adverts just say Qualified Mechanic needed. With driving licence is normal.
